To be the leading conservation entity championing protection and conservation drives for endangered species Locally, Nationally and Internationally.
Background
Endangered Species Conservation Team (ESCoT), limited by guarantee without share capital, is a Conservation Trust Fund that originates from one of the thematic areas of Rwenzori Mountains Initiative (RMI). The Executive Patron of ESCoT is Hon. Atiku Benard, Member of Parliament representing the people of Ayivu County in the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda. RMI was founded in 2016 by Mustafa Yumaa Gerima, a Teacher-turned-Environmentalist in response to what he observed was critical in terms of continuous biodiversity loss if no deliberate and pronounced interventions are incorporated to compliment the Government of Uganda’s efforts to mitigate environmental mismanagement that has resulted to climate change and its unfriendly effects such as global warming, unpredictable rain patterns, floods, prolonged drought, all of which negatively affect human development trajectory and demean the United Nations Development Goals.
ESCoT collaborates among others with; Parliament of Uganda, Ministry of Water and Environment; Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities; National Environment Management Authority (NEMA); Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), Uganda Tourism Board (UTB); West Nile Development Forum; Forum for the Development of Greater Nebbi; CEFORD and the District Local Governments.
As a mother Foundation, RMI mandated the formation of ESCoT that will help achieve the objectives of restoration and conservation of endangered species in particular and biodiversity in general. This followed a 520 Kilometer Kampala-Arua walk organised by RMI to create awareness on the dangers of disappearance of Sheanut trees, tamarind, desert breeze, pangolins, among others.
